Florida Assisted Living Costs and Payment Assistance Programs

The state of Florida currently has a base-rate of $121 per day, $3,643 per month and $43,716 per year for assisted living. The least expensive Florida cities are Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, Miami, Tampa and Jacksonville.

The OSS program which is the Optional State Supplementation Program is a subsidized program given by the Florida Department of Children and Families. The program is specifically for seniors with low-income that can’t live independently and must be placed in a senior residential care facility. The recipient must be placed in an adult foster care center, mental health center or assisted living facility to receive the benefit.

Currently, in order to receive the benefit, the person can not be receiving Medicaid assistance for assisted living. The senior must be a Florida resident and over the age of 65. You must be assessed by Health Services or a Case Manager. There are other requirements that must be met prior to acceptance into the program. One of them is a maximum monthly income for singles and for couples. There are also limitations on the assets the single or couple may have at the time of the assisted living application.

There is a supplemental cash benefit that’s awarded to the single or the couple. Single residents can be awarded up to $78.40 and couples $156.00 per month. The amount will fluctuate depending on what type of facility they’re placed in. The above reflects assisted living only. The amount is determined on a case-by-case basis.

Please note that Florida assisted living and adult foster care rates are for assistance with ADLs. Memory and Alzheimer’s care in Florida is separate and typically not included in the baseline assisted living cost.
