Room Requirements for Assisted Living in the State of Georgia

A standard assisted living room in Georgia must provide at least 80 square feet of living space. This does not include closets or alcoves. This is for a standard room as memory care must include additional accommodation. The outdoor spaces must be secured to prevent flight-risk. There must be a clear contrast between doors and walls as well as where the floor and wall meet. Assisted living apartments in Georgia must include a special alarm which is triggered to alert assisted living care facility staff when a resident exits or attempts to exit in a restricted way. In addition, the railings and walkways must accommodate wheelchairs, walkers, scooters and all walking and mobility devices.

In the state of Georgia, the average base-rate for an assisted living facility that does not include Alzheimer’s/memory care is $94.00 per day; $2,850 per month and $34,200 per year. This is on the lower-end of the national average. When it comes to paying the assisted living costs, Georgia ABD Medicaid will pay only for temporary, rehabilitative at home care and cannot help with assisted living. This means that whatever care that is needed must be prescribed by a physician. The requirement is that you must have a rehabilitatable issue and prognosis must be temporary. 

For Georgia assisted living communities of any type, you must use a Medicaid waiver program if you need help with costs. Most of the waiver programs are in place for those seniors and retirees that need to be placed in an assisted living facility in Georgia and are low-income.
